Milwaukee GridIron RipStop Jacket Tool Torture

The Milwaukee GridIron RipStop Jacket was built to survive the jobsite. Milwaukee has proven that – when compared to their 12 oz Cotton Duck Jacket competition – it is 3x times more resistant to abrasion, prevents tearing in high-wear areas, and reduces weight. We wanted to know if Milwaukee was on one of our job sites when they did their testing.

Is the RipStop Jacket Resistant to Tearing?

Getting caught on items while at work is just an ordinary occurrence. The Milwaukee RipStop Jacket did not back down to our carbide tooth Sawzall blade, the teeth of a straight jaw framing hammer, or the carbide teeth of a 7-1/4In circular saw blade. The only test that did any damage to the jacket was the 16 penny nail test. There was some tearing but the fabric held tough and if this happened to you while you were in the jacket, you would have something else to be worried about.

How is the Resistance to Abrasion?

What could be more abrasive to clothing than a belt sander with an 80 grit belt? The Milwaukee RipStop jacket was not unscathed with this test. But what did we expect? The material held together, the seams did not burst, and although we sanded through the clasp of the zipper, the zipper still works.

Using a Skidsteer to scrape ice off of a concrete driveway will eventually wear away the bucket but what will it do to the Milwaukee RipStop jacket? Not much! The jacket handled this test with flying colors.

Milwaukee RipStop Jacket Conclusion

We listened to what Milwaukee had to say about how tough their jacket was, but we wanted to see it for ourselves. The jacket did experience some damage but we are not surprised. The seams and zipper held up and although we thought we would destroy this jacket but it actually performed very well and we will let you be the judge of the final outcome.

Now why didn’t anyone try to turn on the heated jacket after all the abuse? OK Jacket takes a beating BUT does the Heat still work? My guess it don’t!!

Hi Ed, This model is not a heated jacket. It is a different material than is used on the heated jackets and this is the main feature we were testing. We agree with you that if it was it probably would not have taken the abuse.

      Thank you,
      Acme Tools.

    The jacket may be tough…..
    But it’s not comfortable…..
It’s not cut well for range of motion.
I’d rather buy and wear out three jackets that fit well, then wear one that will stand up to an orbiting sander….who does that anyway?

Don’t you sell this jacket–I put it into the search bar and only got the heated one—I want to buy the jacket you tested—Mark
