8 Weekend Projects To Unify Your Family and Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal

8 Home Improvement Projects For Families

Summer is a wonderful time of wander and family togetherness for many children across America. This is their season to grow and learn without the formalities of a classroom full of desks. We understand that many homeowners take advantage of the nice summer weather to teach their children the value of nature and to realize their own ability to make a change in their surroundings. Today we’re going to discuss 8 weekend projects that you can do with the entire family. These projects have the ability to create or improve family bonds while also improving the overall appearance of your home.

Landscape a Butterfly Garden

A butterfly garden or a fairy garden is a lovely way to teach children the beauty of nature while allowing them to grow their own flower garden. Choose flowering plants that provide color from spring to fall for best results.

Plant a Small Vegetable Garden

Grow your own tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and other foods in the comfort and privacy of your back yard. This teaches your children very valuable lessons about food production and consumption while creating the desire to eat healthy.

Plant New Trees

Trees provide shade and privacy.  They also create wonderful opportunities for tree houses and other fun items in the future. Each tree you plant makes a tremendous impact on the Earth as well, because trees offset our carbon footprint and help clean the air we breathe.

Build a Tree House in an Existing Tree

Tree houses are a wonderful way for children to pass the time and really put their imaginations to work during the summer months. Their tree house could become a castle, a rocket ship, or even a pirate ship. This is a project that teaches building skills and safety with hand tools and power tools while providing a very fun finished product.

Build a Small Fish Pond

You can go about this project in a variety of ways from fully DIY to prefabricated ponds. This project adds beauty to your home while providing your children an understanding of a small pond ecosystem.

Beautify Your Entryway

Paint the entry door, add sidelights or transom windows, and introduce planters and other decor to your entryway. The entryway is one of the first things people notice as they pass by your home. The children can help by planting flowers in decorative planters or helping with the paint if you so decide.

Hang a Tree Swing

Who doesn’t love a tree swing? Make sure to choose a strong tree limb and high quality materials to ensure a high quality swing.

Build Backyard Play Areas

Build a road for toy cars with a sandpit for dump truck fun. Include a pan of water for boats and ships, and let your child help paint wooden blocks to look like skyscrapers and trees. Create a tunnel for cars by using PVC pipe and covering it with mulch.

We believe that family fun and home improvement projects can go hand in hand. Family togetherness is what the outdoors is all about, and we encourage you to try out some of these projects with your family. Include your children in your home improvement projects when possible so that they learn the true value of home maintenance – and get to spend valuable time as a family as well.
